John Wood wins OMV Petrom contract for sustainable aviation fuel

ALN

John Wood Group PLC on Thursday said it has won a ‘significant’ contract with OMV Petrom for a sustainable aviation fuel production project in Europe.

The Aberdeen, Scotland-based oilfield and engineering services provider said the project would see the Petrobrazi refinery in Romania become the first major production facility for sustainable aviation fuel in the region.

John Wood will deliver engineering, procurement & construction management to install a new bio-hydrotreater unit and storage facilities at the refinery. This follows John Wood’s already-completed front-end engineering & design work on the project.

The sustainable aviation fuel and hydrotreated vegetable oil produced will support the European Commission’s goals to reach 6% sustainable fuel at EU airports by 2030, and to reach 70% by 2050.

Chief Executive Officer Ken Gilmartin said: ‘This significant contract award builds on our longstanding relationship with OMV Petrom. We are proud to continue partnering with them to futureproof their infrastructure and enable the production of low carbon fuels.

‘We have deep knowledge of our clients’ assets through decades of proven project delivery. This, combined with our world-class engineering and execution expertise, positions Wood to successfully complete this project and establish Petrobrazi as the first major producer of sustainable fuels in Southeast Europe.’

Shares in John Wood Group were down 1.4% at 64.30 pence each in London on Thursday morning.
