SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Gem Resources shines; Resolute Mining down

The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Wednesday.

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Gem Resources PLC, up 4.4% at 0.60 pence, 12-month range 0.50p-2.55p. The operator of Gravelotte, an emerald mine in South Africa, said it is ‘extremely pleased’ with initial results from work at the Cobra open pit. ‘Initial mining from the newly exposed ore zone in the Cobra oopen pit has yielded both high-grade and high-quality emerald-bearing material,’ Gem said. ‘The geological characteristics observed align with historical production data, supporting the potential for continued high-quality recoveries from the Cobra open pit.’

JPMorgan China Growth & Income PLC, up 2.9% at 243.30p, 12-month range 182.00p-281.00p. Shares in the China-focussed investor tracked tech shares higher. Tencent Holdings Ltd, one of its largest holdings, shot up 3.9% in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

Resolute Mining Ltd, down 2.6% at 18.70p, 12-month range 16.08p-46.00p. Shares in the Africa-focused gold miner return gains from earlier in the week. The stock rose over 5% across the first two days of the week, moving in lockstep with an improving gold price. Gold faded to around $2,887 an ounce Wednesday morning, after spiking to a record high above $2,942 on Tuesday.
