Avingtrans subsidiary wins £4.5 million contract with HS2

ALN

Avingtrans PLC on Thursday said its Booth Industries subsidiary has won a new contract to the value of £4.5 million.

The designer and supplier of components and services to the energy, medical and industrial sectors said the contract will involve the supply of pressure-rated fire doors for the UK’s high-speed rail project HS2.

‘The new contract is fantastic news for Booth and represents a significant step forward for the business,’ said Austen Adams, divisional managing director of the firm’s Advanced Engineering Systems business.

‘Both sets of safety doors will play a crucial role in the operation of the railway, sealing off passageways between tunnels and providing access in case of emergency.’

The contract builds on Booth Industries’ initial £36 million contract with the HS2 project in September 2020, for which it supplied the cross-passage sliding doors for the London-to-West Midlands segment of the route.

Mass production of these cross-passage door sets is due to start in 2025.

Adams continued: ‘With trains capable of travelling at speeds of up to 250mph passing within metres of the doors, they not only need to provide reliable fire integrity and insulation but also to withstand a wide range of challenging day-to-day environmental and fatigue pressures.

‘Both doorsets have already set new benchmarks for the industry and we are delighted to see Booth reinforcing its position as an innovator in the sector, developing specialist products with genuine global market potential.’

Shares in Avingtrans were up 4.2% at 375.00 pence in London on Thursday afternoon.
