Irish consumer price index inflation accelerated in January, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday. Consumer prices in Ireland were 1.9% higher on-year in January, picking up pace from 1.4% in December. The business sectors with the sharpest annual increases were restaurants & hotels, and transport, with 3.9%. Pertinently, excluding energy and unprocessed food, the CPI was up 2.5% on-year in January, a step up from the 2.1% core inflation the CSO had reported for December. On a monthly basis, overall consumer prices were 0.8% lower in January, after growth of 0.9% in December from November. On a harmonised basis, allowing for EU-wide comparison, consumer prices rose by 1.7% on-year in January, dramatically accelerating from 1.0% in December.
