Ireland’s labour market continued to strengthen in February, as the unemployment rate edged lower and the number of jobseekers declined, data from the Central Statistics Office showed on Wednesday. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.9%, down from 4.0% in January and 4.2% a year earlier. The number of unemployed people dropped to 111,500, compared with 115,700 in January and 117,100 in February 2024, reflecting a monthly decline of 4,200 and an annual drop of 5,600. By gender, the unemployment rate for males fell to 3.8% in February, down from 4.0% in January and February 2024. The unemployment rate for females declined to 3.9%, compared with 4.0% in January and 4.3% a year ago. Among age groups, the youth unemployment rate, those between the ages of 15 and 24, declined to 11% in February, down from 12% in January.
