Irish industrial production up 7.1% in three months to February - CSO

ALN

Irish industrial production rose strongly in the three months to February, led by growth in the modern manufacturing sector, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed on Tuesday.

Seasonally adjusted production in manufacturing industries increased by 7.1% in the three months from December 2024 to February 2025, compared with the previous three-month period. On an annual basis, production was up 19.7%.

Monthly output jumped around 13% between January and February 2025, while turnover in manufacturing industries rose approximately 12% on a rolling quarterly basis.

The performance was driven by a 22% year-on-year increase in the Modern sector - which includes chemical, pharmaceutical, and electronic goods manufacturing. By contrast, production in the Traditional sector declined by 0.9% over the same period.

The CSO noted the volatility in monthly data due to the scale of contract manufacturing and outsourcing in the Irish industrial economy, and it recommended focusing on longer-term, quarterly trends.

This release also marks the first under a newly introduced methodology, with the CSO launching its Domestic Industrial Production Index. The quarterly release aims to provide a clearer picture of activity among Irish-owned manufacturers, addressing stakeholder calls for more targeted insights into domestic industrial output.
