Bunzl buys Chile healthcare products distributor, Dutch packaging firm

ALN

Bunzl PLC on Wednesday said it has agreed to buy a healthcare distribution business in Chile, while completing the acquisition of a packaging business in the Netherlands.

The London-based distribution and outsourcing company said it has agreed to buy Chilean healthcare products distributor Hospitalia.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Bunzl said the purchase represents its entry into the healthcare sector in Chile. Hospitalia generated revenue of CLP25 billion, around £19.8 million, in 2024.

Completion of the acquisition is subject to competition authority clearance, which Bunzl said it expects in the next few months.

Bunzl said it has completed the acquisition of Inpakomed BV in the Netherlands.

Inpakomed specialises in sterile product packaging solutions for use in the medical and forensic markets.

Bunzl said the business is ‘highly complementary’ to its existing business in the Netherlands and generated €3 million of revenue in 2024.

Bunzl Chief Executive Officer Frank van Zanten said: ‘Bunzl is a highly cash generative business which allows us to prioritise investment in self-funded value-accretive acquisitions to drive growth, and our pipeline remains active.

‘I am pleased to welcome the team from Hospitalia to Bunzl, with the acquisition marking our expansion into the attractive Chilean healthcare market, as well as the team from Inpakomed, who will expand our product and service offering to customers in the Netherlands.’

Shares in Bunzl were up 0.8% to 2,328.00 pence in London on Wednesday morning.
