Rank eyes sharp rise in number of gaming machines amid casino reform

ALN

Rank Group PLC on Wednesday positively noted the UK government’s three statutory instruments aimed at enabling land-based casino reforms.

The Maidenhead, England-based casino operator highlighted that the statutory instruments, published by the government on Monday, identified July 22 as the date on which the increase to the number of gaming machines will be permitted in casinos in England and Wales.

Further, the opportunity to provide sports betting will be allowed in casinos in England and Wales.

Pertinently, Rank expects to add 882 gaming machines to its current Grosvenor estate of 1,367 machines over the coming months.

The timing of Rank’s new gaming machines being installed will be subject to the completion of applications for the company’s casino licences.

Rank said the total opportunity within its current estate is 3,112 machines, which requires investment into its casinos that it anticipates to gradually complete over the next two to three years.

The group intends to engage with government officials in Scotland for the reform of its Scottish casinos.

Chief Executive Officer John O’Reilly said: ‘The publication of the statutory instruments for land-based casino reforms is very good news for Rank. The modernisations will enable us to improve the Grosvenor customer proposition, helping to grow jobs and generating investment in local communities. We have a detailed roadmap of investments which we will now accelerate as we begin to roll out these reforms over the coming months.’

Rank will release its results for the financial year ending June 30 on August 14.

Rank shares rose 7.4% to 113.60 pence each on Wednesday afternoon in London.
