Light Science Technologies wins patent for environmental sensor

ALN

Light Science Technologies Holdings PLC on Monday said it has been granted a patent for sensorGRO, its environmental sensor, covering air and root zone measurement capabilities.

The provider of lighting, science and plant monitoring solutions said the patent provides a ‘strong building block’ for further development, with future opportunities including water pollution, air pollution and carbon monitoring systems.

The sensor system will provide a recurring revenue stream for the company, ‘enhancing group visibility’.

Additionally, Light Science on Monday reported an inaugural order for a new LED toplight installation through one of its distribution agreements with an unnamed client.

The deal involves Light Science supplying custom lighting to a glasshouse covering more than 8000 square metres, comprised of around 400 lights, to be used to grow lettuce. The system is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2026.

Light Science said its AgTech lighting and sensor products portfolio currently has an order pipeline worth more than £44 million.

‘We are extremely excited by the AgTech opportunity and believe the patent award and new contract, in conjunction with one of our partners, highlight the progress we are making. Importantly, we are growing our portfolio, reach and routes to market as we focus on further commercialising our strong pipeline and developing revenue streams,’ said Chief Executive Officer Simon Deacon.

Shares in Light Science Technologies were up 5.5% at 3.85 pence each in London on Monday afternoon.
