Resolute Mining hires manager of Sukari gold mine in Egypt as COO

ALN

Resolute Mining Ltd on Thursday said it has appointed Gavin Harris as chief operating officer from the start of July, after Geoff Montgomery stepped down.

The Africa-focused gold miner said Montgomery will remain at the company as a senior technical adviser.

Harris has worked on development projects and producing operations at Barrick Gold Corp, BHP Group Ltd and Teranga Gold Corp.

His most recent role was as general manager at the Sukari gold mine in Egypt for Centamin PLC, which was acquired by AngloGold Ashanti PLC late last year.

‘In Gavin, we have the operational expertise and experience to continue to realize the full potential at Syama and Mako as well as bring Doropo into production, a project with which he is already familiar from his time at Centamin,’ said Chief Executive Officer Chris Eger.

Resolute bought the Doropo gold project from AngloGold Ashanti in May. The Ivory Coast site is set for a construction decision by the end of 2025 and has a mineral reserve of 1.9 million ounces.

‘At the world-class Sukari mine Gavin consistently hit production targets and delivered key projects that improved operational efficiency and reduced costs. This combined with his focus on safety performance makes Gavin ideally suited to lead Resolute’s operations as we grow and evolve in this exciting new chapter.’

Shares in Resolute Mining were up 0.5% at 27.80 pence in London on Thursday morning. The stock closed up 1.8% to A$0.57 in Sydney.
