Ireland consumer price inflation rate cools to 1.7% in May

Ireland’s consumer price inflation rate abated last month, official numbers on Thursday showed.

According to the Central Statistics Office, the pace of consumer price inflation cooled to 1.7% on-year in May from 2.2% in April. This represents the tamest rate of inflation since December, when it stood at 1.4%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat in May. They had risen 0.4% in April from March.

On a harmonised basis, allowing for EU-wide comparison, the annual pace of consumer price inflation eased to 1.4% in May from 2.0% in April. On a monthly basis, prices were flat also by the harmonised calculation, after a 0.4% increase in April from March.
