Ethernity Networks stock climbs on US patent office boost

ALN

Ethernity Networks Ltd on Friday said it had a notice of allowance from the US Patent & Trademark Office for its routing algorithm product.

The Tel Aviv-based networking and security software company applied for a patent in the US earlier in June. The application is for Ethernity’s ‘Longest Prefix Match’ routing algorithm.

The product provides multi-route internet access through firmware embedded in an pipeline data processor, rather than external hardware.

Following the news, Ethernity shares rose 12% to 0.023 pence each on Friday afternoon in London.

The algorithm was originally developed as part of Ethernity’s ‘universal edge platform’ offering and can be used by application-specific integrated circuit computer chips. Ethernity is planning to launch an ‘application-specific standard product’ offering. A successful patent ‘would build upon Ethernity’s differentiated technology stack’ and boost its intellectual property portfolio, the firm said.

‘Together, these innovations position the company to deliver a highly integrated and cost-effective silicon solution that meets the evolving needs of original equipment manufacturers and service providers looking for advanced, scalable, and programmable access network platforms.’

Friday’s allowance notice does not equate to a patent grant, but indicates that theoretically, the claims in the application can be patented. Ethernity expects the patent award ‘in due course’, once the firm has paid off the application and administrative work has completed.
