LifeSafe fire extinguisher wins UAE nod for lithium-ion battery use

ALN

LifeSafe Holdings PLC on Monday said its lithium-ion battery fire extinguisher has received approval from the United Arab Emirates Civil Defence, expanding the product’s international market reach.

The approval, granted via Singapore-based distribution partner Lingjack Engineering Works Pte Ltd, applies to LifeSafe’s 6-litre extinguisher featuring its proprietary thermal runaway fluid, or TRF. The product is designed to extinguish lithium-ion battery fires and prevent reignition.

LifeSafe, an Essex, England-based fire safety technology developer, said the UAE approval follows similar certifications received earlier this year from authorities in Qatar and the Philippines.

‘Accreditation for new products within the global fire industry continues to be a complex and lengthy process,’ said Chair Dominic Berger. ‘We are delighted to have received approval for our new TRF cylinders for sale within the very significant UAE market.’

Lingjack Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Lim said the demand for environmentally friendly solutions to lithium-ion battery fires is growing globally, and the company expects to expand approvals and product launches in additional territories.

Shares in LifeSafe were down 1.9% at 6.63 pence in London on Monday afternoon.
