CMA launches inquiry into merger of Evri and DHL Group’s parcel branch

ALN

The UK Competition and Markets Authority on Tuesday launched an investigation into a proposed merger between DHL Group AG’s UK parcel division and courier company Evri Ltd.

Back in May, the Bonn, Germany-based logistics company said it is planning to acquire ‘a significant minority stake’ in the Leeds, England-based courier.

Formerly operated under the brand name Hermes, Evri was purchased by New York-based private equity firm Apollo Global Management in 2024.

If the merger proceeds, the combined company will operate as Evri Group, with Apollo remaining the majority shareholder.

The CMA in June invited commentary on the deal and its potential to reduce competition in the UK delivery sector.

As of Tuesday, the regulator is formally investigating the proposal, and has until September 25 to release a phase-one decision.

DHL shares were 0.7% lower at €40.70 on Tuesday afternoon in Frankfurt.
