BWA calls early tests for Cameroon mineral deposits ‘encouraging’

ALN

BWA Group PLC on Thursday posted preliminary test results for its Cameroonian prospects.

The London-based early-stage mining firm has tested samples from areas where it is permitted to target heavy mineral sand deposits.

The licence zones are called Dehane 3, which is located south of central Cameroon and roughly 80 kilometres from the port of Kribi, near the Nyong and Kelle rivers, as well as Nkoteng 2, which covers 494 square kilometres near the Sanaga River. According to BWA, these areas are known for heavy mineral sands.

At Dehane, BWA drilled 45 holes, of which 14 composite samples were sent to a Cape Town laboratory for heavy liquid separation. Another eight samples were analysed via x-ray diffraction.

The results were ‘encouraging’, according to BWA Chair Jonathon Wearing, with ‘continuous’ HMS mineralisation throughout the Dehane zone. Drilling cut into bedrock at only one hole, but the company plans to drill deeper where there is evidence of more HMS build-up.

At Nkoteng, 40 holes were drilled, with samples from 18 holes sent to the lab. Total heavy mineral concentrate was between 0.82% and 6.10% while valuable heavy mineral content ranged from 0.48% to 2.36%.

Wearing said the Nkoteng analysis had produced some ‘anomalous’ results, and that further work is needed for a clearer picture.

For both Dehane and Nkoteng, testing showed HMS mineralisation at and potentially beyond the sample group. Alluvium mining is also a possibility.

BWA may test the remaining samples, after it has confirmed outcomes from the first round.

Wearing added that drilling at both sites has ‘helped to develop our relationship with the community’ who live in what the mining company has labelled ‘an emerging heavy mineral sands district’.

BWA shares remained flat at 0.45 pence on the Aquis Exchange on Thursday afternoon.
