Solid State partners with Volklec on UK defence battery tech

ALN

Solid State PLC on Monday said its Custom Power division has partnered with Volklec Ltd, the UK’s only independent battery cell manufacturer, to deliver a sovereign end-to-end battery solution for the defence sector.

Solid State, a Redditch-based components supplier to industrial and defence customers, said the collaboration pairs Custom Power’s bespoke battery management systems with Volklec’s UK-designed lithium-ion cells to support high-performance energy delivery in demanding operational environments.

The alliance will deliver full-cycle battery capabilities, from cell development through to design, manufacture and long-term support, aimed at UK defence prime contractors.

Solid State said the move supports the Ministry of Defence’s domestic supply chain priorities and reinforces national resilience.

‘Combining Volklec’s proven cell technology with our custom-designed battery systems allows us to meet the exacting standards of defence clients,’ said Dave Crossman, global vice president and general manager at Custom Power. ‘This partnership is a powerful example of UK innovation delivering strategic advantage.’

The agreement was facilitated via MAKE UK Defence, an industry body that connects defence suppliers and supports capability development across the UK.

Volklec Executive Director Phil Popham said: ‘Built for mission success, this alliance is about more than technology it’s about trust, resilience, and readiness.’

Shares in Solid State were 4.0% higher at 156.00 pence in London at midday on Monday.
