Irish consumer price index inflation speeds up to 2.0% in August CSO

ALN

Ireland’s annual consumer price index inflation accelerated in August, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday.

The country’s annual CPI inflation rate sped up to 2.0% in August from 1.7% in July. It was the highest level since 2.2% in April, and the first time since then that it reached 2% or above.

The monthly inflation rate accelerated to 0.4% in August from 0.1% in July.

The harmonised annual CPI inflation rate which allows for EU-wide comparison rose to 1.9% in August from 1.6% in July.

Notably, it overshot preliminary data of a 1.8% rise in the harmonised annual CPI rate in August that the CSO had published on September 1.

The monthly harmonised rate climbed to 0.4% in August from 0.2% in July, and was higher than the flash reading of 0.3%.
