Biotech Growth Trust appoints former UKHSA head Jenny Harries to board

ALN

Biotech Growth Trust PLC on Wednesday said Jenny Harries has been appointed an independent non-executive director, as of Tuesday.

The London-based investor in biotechnology companies noted Harries stepped down from her position as chief executive of the UK Health Security Agency earlier this summer. The UKHSA combines functions previously covered by Public Health England, the Joint Biosecurity Centre, the Covid Vaccine Task Force and NHS Test and Trace.

Harries had led the agency since it was founded in 2021, following her term as England’s deputy chief medical officer, ‘where she played a pivotal role in the UK government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic,’ Biotech added.

The firm noted Harries’s contributions to international health policy projects, and involvement ‘in the UK’s response to Ebola, Zika, mpox, MERS and the Novichok attacks.’

Shareholders will vote on her appointment at Biotech’s annual general meeting in July 2026.

Chair Roger Yates commented on Harries: ‘Her unparalleled experience in public health leadership and global health strategy will bring an invaluable perspective to the board.’

Biotech shares were 0.2% higher at 922.00 pence on Wednesday afternoon in London, and have fallen 12% over the past year.
