Kenmare Resources PLC on Thursday reported that a fatal incident involving a police officer took place in the early hours of Tuesday. The Mozambique-focused producer of titanium minerals and zircon, and operator of the Moma Titanium Minerals mine, said the deceased was on guard at the mine’s water pump station in Pilivili when assaulted. The company said this is around 16 kilometres from Moma’s Mineral Separation Plant. Kenmare said the incident appears to have been motivated by theft, as an electrical cable that feeds the pump station was stolen. The company is working with the police in the region, it said, adding that it is upping security provision at Moma to enable security personnel to work in pairs. Shares in Kenmare rose 0.5% to 313.00 pence on Thursday afternoon in London. ‘We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and extend our sincere condolences to the police officer‘s family, friends and colleagues. At Kenmare, the safety and wellbeing of all those involved in our work, including those maintaining law and order, is a fundamental commitment. We are actively supporting the investigation and working closely with the Police of the Republic of Mozambique,’ said Managing Director Tom Hickey. Copyright 2025 Alliance News Ltd.
