Banco Santander SA on Friday said Mike Regnier, chief executive of Santander UK Group Holdings PLC, plans to step down by the first quarter of 2026. The Santander, Spain-based lending and financial services firm noted Regnier’s role leading the business from 2022 and through the acquisition of TSB Banking Group PLC from Spanish peer Banco Sabadell SA. ‘Mike has done an excellent job in his four years with Santander. We now have real momentum in the transformation of the UK bank... Our decision to acquire TSB accelerates our strategy and is a clear statement of intent in our ambition for Santander in the UK,’ commented Banco Santander Chair Ana Botin. Outgoing CEO Regnier noted: ‘It had been my intention to move on after four to five years with Santander as I have other interests I would like to pursue. Given that the integration of TSB will take considerably longer than this, I have suggested to the board that now would be a good time to find a successor who can see this critical project through to its completion and beyond.’ Santander UK added that it has begun the process of appointing Regnier’s successor. Banco Santander shares rose 1.6% to €8.80 on Friday afternoon in Madrid. Copyright 2025 Alliance News Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
