Dekel Agri-Vision shares fall as palm oil output halves in 3rd quarter

ALN

Dekel Agri-Vision PLC on Friday said strong crude palm oil and palm kernel oil prices helped cushion the impact on revenue of lower production in the third quarter of the year.

The West Africa-focused agricultural company firm reported crude palm oil production of 2,727 tonnes in the third quarter, down 49% compared to 5,364 tonnes the year before. Fresh fruit bunches processed declined by 48% to 14,039 tonnes from 27,017, and the oil extraction rate from these bunches was 19.4%, down from 19.9%.

Dekel Agri-Vision said the ‘notably weak’ production during the quarter was due to reduced availability of fresh fruit bunches across the region.

‘Early indicators in October suggest a modest recovery is under way and historically periods of weak FFB availability are often followed by stronger volumes,’ the company said. ‘In addition, the high season will be commencing shortly in January.’

CPO sales volume fell 58% to 2,713 tonnes from 6,471 tonnes, which all third-quarter production sold.

The average CPO sales price increased 24% to €964 per tonne from €777. The average palm kernel oil sales price rose 47% to €1,254 per tonne from €853.

Dekel said its cashew operation has shown substantial improvement in recent months and is now consistently processing over 500 tonnes of raw cashew nuts per month.

The company aims to achieve a monthly run rate of over 700 tonnes by the end of next year.

Dekel Agri-Vision shares were down 6.7% to 0.49 pence each on midday Friday in London. The stock is down 64% over the past 12 months.
