Irish trade surplus dips in August; surplus with US dives 23% on-month

Ireland’s trade surplus fell a notch in August amid a significantly lower surplus with the US, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Wednesday.

The country’s trade surplus declined 3.2% to €5.15 billion in August from €5.32 billion in July, the latter revised down by 1.7% from a previously reported €5.42 billion.

Exports dipped 0.1% to €17.47 billion in August from €17.48 billion in July, while imports edged up 1.3% to €12.31 billion in August from €12.16 billion in July.

Notably, Ireland’s trade surplus with the US fell by 23% to €2.09 billion in August from €2.70 billion in July.

Meanwhile Ireland’s trade deficit with the UK reduced by 42% to €106 million in August from €182 million in July.
