(Removes a dollar value of the contract with Tata that M&S said is inaccurate and adds a statement from M&S.) Marks & Spencer Group PLC has decided not to renew a deal with Tata Consultancy Services, TCS, to run its tech helpdesk, The Telegraph reported on Sunday. M&S, a London-based retailer, had lost £300 million due to a cyber attack that happened in April. M&S had cancelled the deal in July, the newspaper said, while Mumbai, India-based TCS denied it was at fault for the attack. TCS held an investigation after the incident into whether its technology helpdesk had acted as a gateway for hackers to access M&S’s systems, later saying it found no fault. M&S had worked with TCS for over a decade, and two years ago agreed to a renewed deal with the outsourcer to modernise its technology systems. The contract was due to end this past summer, and the request for proposals was issued prior to the cyber attack. In a statement to Alliance News, M&S said: ‘TCS provides a number of technology and IT services for M&S and we value our partnership with the TCS team. ‘Regarding the IT Service Desk contract specifically, as is usual process, we went to market to test for the most suitable product available, ran a thorough process and instructed a new provider this summer. This process started in January, and this change has no bearing on our wider TCS relationship.’ M&S shares closed 0.8% higher at 407.80 pence each on Friday in London.
