Mindflair jumps as notes SVV2 invests in hybrid AI company Astut

ALN

Mindflair PLC on Monday noted that Sure Valley Ventures’s second fund, or SVV2, completed a new investment in Astut Ltd, a hybrid artificial intelligence company spun out from the University of Oxford’s mathematics department.

Mindflair, a London-based investor in artificial intelligence technology, highlighted it holds an interest in SVV2.

Mindflair added that Astut, based at the Culham Science Centre in Oxfordshire, has engaged in pilot discussions with organisations in defence and security, including the UK’s Ministry of Defence.

‘The funding raised will be used to expand its development team, enhance its hybrid AI platform and establish key channel partnerships across multiple industries,’ Mindflair said.

SVV3 co-led a £1.6 million seed funding round alongside East X Ventures, with participation from the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund, managed by Future Planet Capital.

Astut is developing hybrid AI technology that enabled transparent and auditable decision-making in high-stakes scenarios where no historical data exists, Mindflair said. Examples are defence and geopolitical scenarios ‘where traditional AI models are unable to operate effectively.’

Mindflair Director Nicholas Lee said: ‘This investment in Astut reflects the continued focus on identifying and supporting cutting-edge AI companies that are addressing some of the most complex challenges in the sector. Astut’s hybrid AI technology exemplifies the kind of innovation that can redefine how organisations make mission-critical decisions.’

Mindflair shares jumped 15% to 0.75 pence each on Monday morning in London.
