Ireland jobless rate falls to 5.0% in October from 5.1% in September

Ireland’s unemployment rate eased slightly in October, though it remained higher than a year earlier, according to data from the Central Statistics Office on Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.0% in October, down from a revised 5.1% in September, but up from 4.2% in October 2024.

The CSO said there were an estimated 147,400 people unemployed in October, a monthly fall of around 1,700, though the total was 26,800 higher than a year earlier.

Among men, the unemployment rate declined to 5.0% from 5.1% in September and rose from 4.4% a year earlier. The rate for women was unchanged at 5.0%, compared with 4.0% in October 2024.

Youth unemployment also edged higher, with the rate for those aged 15 to 24 rising to 13.4% from 13.3% the previous month. For people aged 25 to 74, the rate slipped to 3.8% from 3.9% in September.
