Nichols poaches THG’s Matthew Rothwell to become new CFO

ALN

Nichols PLC on Tuesday said it has appointed THG PLC’s Matthew Rothwell as chief financial officer and as company secretary.

The Lancashire, England-based soft drinks manufacturer, whose brands include Vimto and Slush Puppie, said Rothwell will join the firm by April 13, 2026.

Rothwell is currently deputy CFO at THG, the Manchester-based retail firm behind brands such as Lookfantastic and Myprotein.

He previously held senior finance roles at Asda and J Sainsbury PLC.

‘The board is confident that his expertise and strategic insight will be instrumental in supporting the group’s continued development and growth,’ Nichols said.

Interim Finance Director David Taylor will step down at the end of the month. Financial Controller Rebecca Hughes will ‘support the board senior leadership team’ as a non-board finance director until Rothwell’s arrival.

‘Following a comprehensive and diligent search process we are delighted to announce Matthew’s appointment to the board. Matthew’s appointment reflects our commitment to attracting high-calibre leadership, and his experience and capabilities align very well with our strategic priorities,’ said Chair Liz McMeikan.

‘On behalf of the board and everyone at Nichols, we thank David for his contribution and exceptional commitment during his interim tenure. We look forward to welcoming Matthew to Nichols and to benefiting from his experience. I have every confidence he will make a significant contribution to the group’s continued growth.’

Shares in Nichols were up 3.4% at 1,060.00 pence on Tuesday afternoon in London.
