Irish inflation picks up to 2.9% in October; harmonised rises to 2.8%

ALN

Consumer price inflation accelerated in Ireland in October, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed on Thursday.

The consumer price index rose by 2.9% in October from a year before, picking up pace from a 2.7% annual rise in September. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.5% in October, after a decline of 0.2% in September.

On a harmonised level allowing for EU-wide comparison, the annual Irish inflation rate stepped up to 2.8% in October from 2.7% in September. This was higher than the CSO’s preliminary data release in late October, which had estimated the rate had remained at 2.7% in October.

Monthly, harmonised prices rose 0.4% in October, higher than the preliminary reading of 0.2%, and compared to a fall of 0.2% in September.
