Rightmove PLC on Thursday said it has received notice of a potential legal claim against it, confirming press reports. The Milton Keynes, England-based online property portal said it is ‘confident in the value we provide to our partners’. Shares in Rightmove were down 1.1% at 557.40 pence on Thursday afternoon in London. Estate Agent Today reported that Rightmove has been accused of charging unfair and excessive prices to UK estate agents. It said people behind the accusations claim the damages in legal action could total around £1 billion. Rightmove has a market capitalisation of £4.29 billion. The legal action is led by Jeremy Newman, a former panel member of the UK Competition & Markets Authority. Estate Agents Today said the legal action will argue that Rightmove ‘abused its dominant position in the online property portal market by charging excessive and unfair prices to estate agents to list properties on its online portal’. It said that a statement from Newman said agencies across the UK will be represented on an opt-out basis. ‘My case will seek to return the overpaid fees to estate agents across the country and to rebalance the relationship between Rightmove and the estate agents that use its online property portal,’ Newman said. Rightmove said ‘further updates will be provided as appropriate’. Copyright 2025 Alliance News Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
