EssilorLuxottica renews license for Burberry-branded eyeware

ALN

EssilorLuxottica on Thursday said it has extended its license deal with Burberry Group PLC for another decade.

The Paris-based eyewear maker has held the rights to develop, produce and sell eyeware under the British fashion label since 2006.

EssilorLuxottica shares were up 1.1% at €276.80 apiece on Thursday morning in Paris, while Burberry traded 0.1% lower at 1,284.27 pence in London.

Renewing the tie-up allows EssilorLuxottica to continue benefitting from the heritage brand’s appeal until the end of 2035.

Joshua Schulman, chair of London-based Burberry described this as ‘a relationship grounded in craftsmanship, design and innovation.’

The Parisian firm’s Chief Executive Francesco Milleri added: ‘We are delighted to extend our two-decade partnership with Burberry, a creative journey that has brought to life collections infused with Burberry’s timeless sophistication and uniquely British allure.’

EssilorLuxottica counts European houses Chanel, Versace and Prada in its stable, plus US names Ray-Ban, Oakley and Polo Ralph Lauren. Alongside making glasses and optical care products, the firm has a tight grip on the retail market, as owner of the Sunglass Hut franchise.
