Sound Energy ‘encouraged’ by progress at Tendrara development

ALN

Sound Energy PLC on Monday reported operational progress at its Tendrara gas development project in Morocco and approval of the extension of its Anoual exploration permits.

Sound Energy is a transition energy-focused business, with gas development projects in Morocco.

Following the commencement of initial commissioning activities for the TE-5 Horst development, reported in December, Sound Energy said it has been informed by operator Mana Energy Ltd that both wells have been successfully flowed to commission.

It added that their respective parts of the gas gathering system have also been tested.

‘The GGS consists of the wellheads, flowlines, choke valves, heat exchangers, liquid drop-out vessels and flares, so it is a major milestone to have this section of the surface facilities completed and tested in full,’ said Sound Energy.

The company said the Tendrara site has nine high-performance engines designed to meet the operational power of the site.

It said the gas-fired generators will be commissioned and tested in the coming weeks, using natural gas from one of the phase 1 development wells. It said this could potentially displace more costly diesel fuel, supporting with operating costs and Scope 1 emissions.

Further, Sound Energy said the extension to its Anoual exploration permits has been approved by the minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development as well as the minister for the Economy.

Following the amendments, the company said the complementary period of the exploration permits has been extended to September 2028, ‘with a firm work programme commitment to drill one exploration well with a primary Triassic objective.’

Sound Energy expects that operator Mana Energy will fulfil its commitment to drill the M5 exploration well, with Sound Energy’s share of the drilling costs capped at $2.6 million.

In addition, the company said it continued to review funding options, with it expecting to update the market regarding bridging finance to first gas.

Shares in the company were trading up 3.7% at 0.98 pence on Monday morning in London.

‘We are very encouraged by continued operational progress at Tendrara, with both TE-6 and TE-7 successfully flowed as part of the commissioning of the gas gathering system and look forward to the commissioning of gas fired power generation. These achievements mark another important milestone for the phase I development and reflect strong execution by the operating team,’ said Chief Executive Majid Shafiq.

‘The approval of the extension to the Anoual exploration permits is very positive too, securing additional time and clarity to advance a well-defined exploration programme across a highly prospective acreage position in eastern Morocco.’
