BT says on track for full-year guidance despite weak third quarter

ALN

BT Group PLC on Thursday said it is on track for its annual guidance, despite lower revenue and adjusted earnings in its financial third quarter.

BT also reaffirmed its ambition for £2.00 billion in cashflow in financial 2027 and £3.0 billion per year by the end of this decade.

BT shares were up 0.5% to 206.00 pence early Thursday in London. The stock is up 42% over the past 12 months.

London-based telecommunications said adjusted revenue, which excludes specific items, was £4.98 billion in the three months that ended December 31, down 4.0% from £5.18 billion a year before. Within this, adjusted UK service revenue was £3.84 billion, down 1.8% from £3.91 billion.

Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation was £2.08 billion in the third quarter, down 1.0% from £2.10 billion a year before. Within this, adjusted Ebitda in the Consumer business was down 0.7% to £650 million from £655 million and down 11% at £317 million from £355 million in the Business unit.

Adjusted Ebitda for broadband network provider Openreach was £1.05 billion in the third quarter on £1.54 billion in revenue, up from £1.03 billion in adjusted Ebitda on £1.53 billion in revenue a year before.

BT said the number of Openreach broadband lines declined by 210,000 in the third quarter from the second. However, BT said it expects Openreach’s full-year line losses to be about 850,000, better than its previous estimate.

BT also noted that Openreach ’fibre to the premises’ offering had 571,000 net adds in the third quarter, up 21% on year, and now connects 8.2 million premises.

The company said its total FTTP footprint is now 21.4 million premises and is on track to pass 5 million premises in the current financial year. It expects to reach 25 million premises by December.

‘BT continues to deliver on its strategy - building and connecting the UK to the best next-generation networks at record pace, while accelerating our transformation,’ said Chief Executive Alison Kirkby.

‘Our network leadership strengthened further in the quarter, with full fibre broadband now reaching more than 21 million homes and businesses, and our 5G+ network accessible to 69% of the population.’
