Irish trade surplus jumps 20% monthly in December to €4.91 billion

Ireland’s trade surplus grew sharply in December as imports fell harder than exports, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Tuesday.

The country’s trade surplus surged 20% to €4.91 billion in December from €4.10 billion in November.

Exports declined 0.2% to €17.00 billion in December from €17.03 billion in November, while imports fell 6.5% to €12.09 billion in December from €12.92 billion in November.

Ireland’s trade surplus with the US fell 13% to €1.67 billion in December from €1.91 billion in November.

Meanwhile, its trade surplus with the rest of the EU rose 14% to €2.57 billion in December from €2.26 billion in November.

Notably, Ireland had a trade surplus of €184 million with the UK in December, compared to a trade deficit of €143 million in November.
