4BaseBio expands facilities to support growing synthetic DNA demand

ALN

4Basebio PLC on Tuesday said it is expanding to a new innovation hub and manufacturing facility at its headquarters in Cambridge, England to support growing demand.

The biotechnology company involved in the use of synthetic DNA said that research and manufacturing needs for gene and cell therapies, genome editing, and DNA and mRNA vaccines prompted the lease from Peterhouse, the University of Cambridge’s oldest college.

The facility is a 26,500 square feet purpose-built space. This includes laboratories, air handling systems, cold room, and office space.

4Basebio will move in the new facility upon the building’s completion in late summer. The build-out and construction is being delivered by Zero Workspace, which has already delivered technical workspaces in the UK.

‘Compared with plasmid DNA, synthetic DNA offers advantages in purity, safety and scalability. As development pipelines mature, demand for research and high-quality DNA manufacturing is expected to grow, and this facility enables 4basebio to meet that demand’, the company said.

4Basebio shares were down 1.3% to 468.00 pence each on Wednesday morning in London.
