PRESS: Next looks to bag Radley in latest retail brand acquisition

ALN

Next PLC is weighing a takeover of Radley, the British handbag brand, Sky News reported on Tuesday.

Sky said the Leicester-based retailer is in discussions with advisers to Radley’s owners about a deal that would involve acquiring its brand and intellectual property assets.

The FTSE 100-listed group run by Simon Wolfson joins the turnaround investor Gordon Brothers among the suitors for the handbag brand.

Retail industry sources told Sky that any deal might be implemented through a pre-pack administration, although the outcome of Radley’s sale process is said to be some way from being determined.

It would be the latest in a line of small bolt-on deals by Next, which recently picked up the shoe retailer Russell & Bromley, and has also bought brands such as Cath Kidston, Joules and Seraphine.

Radley posted a loss of £2.2 million for the financial year to April 2025. The US accounts for roughly 15% of group revenues, which fell to £65.8 million from £72 million in the previous year.

Shares in Next closed up 0.9% at 13,470.00 pence each in London on Tuesday.
