Taylor Wimpey notes rising energy costs but says well positioned

ALN

Taylor Wimpey PLC on Tuesday said it remained well positioned to generate value for shareholders and the wider UK economy, as it reported a dip in UK net private sales.

The High Wycombe, England-based housebuilder, on the day of its annual general meeting, said trading in the year to date has been ‘steady’, with UK net private sales rate to April 26 at 0.74 per outlet per week, down 3.9% from 0.77 a year before.

Taylor Wimpey said the total order book value was £2.23 billion as at April 26, down 4.5% from £2.34 billion year-on-year, with pricing in the order book around 1% lower amid recent underlying pressure, particularly in areas with stretched affordability.

The company expects build cost inflation to be in the low to mid single digits in 2026, citing rising energy costs and emerging supply chain pressures.

The firm added: ‘Taylor Wimpey remains well positioned to generate value for shareholders and the wider UK economy from our high-quality, well-located landbank and to deliver growth and strong shareholder returns over the medium term.’

Taylor Wimpey said it remains focused on cost control and operational discipline.

Chief Executive Jennie Daly said: ‘Sales in the year to date have been steady and our teams continue to work extremely hard to support customers through their homebuying journeys against ongoing affordability challenges and an increasingly uncertain macro backdrop.’

Taylor Wimpey shares fell 3.5% to 80.50 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
