AstraZeneca PLC on Monday posted positive phase-three trial results for a combination of its drugs Imfinzi and Imjudo to treat a form of liver cancer. Shares in the Cambridge, England-based pharmaceutical firm fell 1.0% to 13,668.00 pence each on Monday afternoon in London. The combination of Imfinzi, or durvalumab, and Imjudo, or tremelimumab, dubbed the Stride regime, was given to patients with or without lenvatinib, before transarterial chemoembolisation and in combination with the latter. Testing was carried out among patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma who were eligible for embolisation. The Stride regime with lenvatinib and transarterial chemoembolisation showed a 30% reduced risk of disease progression or death compared with transarterial chemoembolisation alone. The treatment regime was also linked to positive trends in secondary endpoints such as overall survival and progression-free survival, AstraZeneca said. The company’s Executive Vice President of Oncology Haematology R&D Susan Galbraith commented: ‘These results advance our strategy to move novel immunotherapy regimens into earlier stages of cancer and underscore the opportunity to bring new treatment options for patients into this challenging liver cancer setting.’ Imfinzi has clearance to treat endometrial cancer when combined with chemotherapy.
