IN BRIEF: WH Smith opens Belfast airport store ahead of ‘peak’ summer

ALN

WH Smith PLC - Swindon, England-based travel retailer - Opens new store, described as a ‘one-stop-shop retail destination,’ at Belfast International Airport, which is part of Vinci SA’s Vinci Airports network. The store is in the airside departures concourse and caters to leisure and business travelers, offering ‘a comprehensive range’ of foods and drinks, health and beauty products, ‘travel essentials’ and other items. Company and airport also highlight ‘clear navigation, efficient checkout areas, and a layout tailored to high passenger flow.’ Announcement follows WH Smith, earlier in June, again lowering its full-year guidance for the second time in three months to forecast headline pretax profit before non-underlying items of £75 million to £90 million for the year ending August 31. This would be down on-year from £108 million. Company also said it had raised £106 million via a placing, subscription and retail offer.

WH Smith UK, International & Australia Chief Executive Officer Andrew Harrison comments: ‘We’re excited to bring our worldleading onestop shop offer to Belfast International, making it easier than ever for customers in Northern Ireland to get everything they need ahead of their journey. Our new store combines bestinclass design with local character, including a Belfast mural that celebrates the city. This is a strong and growing market, and I look forward to seeing how the store performs throughout our peak summer trading period.’
