Bharti Airtel Ltd on Tuesday said it has increased its stake in Airtel Africa PLC to around 79% after completing a share swap deal with Indian Continent Investment Ltd. Shares in London-based telecommunications firm Airtel Africa, which operates primarily in Africa, fell 4.3% to 333.00 pence each in London on Wednesday. In a regulatory filing Tuesday, New Delhi, India-based Bharti Airtel said it had completed the acquisition of 595 million shares in Airtel Africa from ICIL, a 16.3% stake, taking its holding to around 79%. In exchange, Bharti Airtel approved the issue of 146.8 million of its own shares to ICIL. Following the allotment, ICIL holds around 3.3% of Bharti Airtel’s share capital. ICIL is a Mauritius-based investment entity controlled by the family of billionaire Sunil Bharti Mittal, acting as a key investment arm for Bharti Global. It holds and manages significant stakes in companies related to Bharti Enterprises, including Bharti Airtel and Airtel Africa. The deal was first announced in May. Copyright 2026 Alliance News Ltd.
