Watkin Jones PLC - London-based property developer - London-based property consultancy Marick Real Estate appoints Watkin Jones as its construction partner for the redevelopment of 38-40 George Street into Wilde Oxford. Says the new 145-unit ‘lifestyle aparthotel’ will have ‘welcoming social spaces designed to bring guests, locals and visitors together to meet, work and connect,’ and a 400 metres squared community space which ‘will serve as a hub for a wide variety of community activities’. Marick signed building contracts with Watkin Jones earlier this month, which it says marks ‘a significant milestone in the delivery of this landmark project for the Gloucester Green area.’ Says the project is now in the mobilisation stage. Hoarding will be installed in mid-August, before it expects welfare cabins to arrive and demolition to start in late August. Consequently, the project is ‘in line with previously forecast timescales.’ Practical completion, and the project’s handover back to Marick, Staycity Group, and Oxford City Council, is forecast for the first quarter of 2029. ‘This is a strong addition to our delivery pipeline, further supporting our diversification into the hotel sector and marking our first development partnership with Marick Real Estate,’ comments Watkin Jones Chief Executive Officer Alex Pease. ‘This transaction demonstrates our ability to deliver high-quality urban schemes, in vibrant cities like Oxford, where demand remains strong for well-located accommodation options.’ Current stock price: 19.34 pence, up 4.6% on Wednesday afternoon in London 12-month change: down 33% Copyright 2026 Alliance News Ltd.
