RTW Biotech invests $1.4 million in Lycia Therapeutics’ series D

ALN

RTW Biotech Opportunities Ltd on Friday said it has made an additional investment in portfolio company Lycia Therapeutics Inc as part of its series D financing round.

The Guernsey-based investor in the life sciences sector said it is investing $1.4 million in the California-based biotechnology research firm as part of its $75 million financing round.

RTW Biotech initially invested in Lycia as part of its series B in September 2021, then again in its series C in 2024. The company noted that as of May 31, Lycia represented 0.6% of its net asset value.

The investment trust explained that Lycia’s lead programmes target diseases driven by proteins circulating in the blood.

Shares in RTW Biotech were down 0.9% at $2.32 on Friday morning in London.

‘We’ve backed Lycia since 2021 because the biology is genuinely differentiated. Most drugs can’t touch proteins outside the cell, and Lycia’s platform can,’ said Rod Wong, chief investment officer at RTW Investments.

‘This series D reflects growing conviction in the science and the team and positions Lycia well to advance its pipeline to clinical proof of concept. We look forward to continuing to support the team as they move into this exciting next chapter.’
