Austria’s supreme court has deemed unlawful more than a dozen fees charged by no-frills airline Ryanair Holdings PLC, opening the door to reimbursement demands, a consumer association said Monday. Its ruling said ‘additional fees must be presented in a transparent manner’, said the VKI advocacy group, which brought the case on behalf of Austria’s social affairs ministry. It targeted payments including an airport check-in fee of €55, a €25 fee for small children, or a €15 charge for issuing a boarding pass which VKI said could add up to more than a ticket price. It added that the Irish carrier would charge the fees even if passengers were not responsible for being deemed liable for them. ‘Consumers who paid these fees on the basis of these clauses can now seek reimbursement,’ VKI said in a statement. ‘Whoever reserves a flight has to know how much it really costs,’ Ulrike Koenigsberger-Ludwig, the state secretary in charge of consumer protection, said in the statement. Ryanair did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment. Last week, Ryanair said it would scrap a fee levied on parents wanting to sit next to their children after UK regulators opened an investigation into the added cost. Ryanair shares were 1.8% lower at €26.68 each on Monday morning in Dublin. source: AFP Copyright 2026 Alliance News Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
