Ireland inflation slows to 3.3% in June as energy prices fall

ALN

Irish consumer price inflation eased a bit in June, although it remained above the eurozone rate, according to a flash estimate released by the Central Statistics Office on Tuesday.

The EU harmonised index of consumer prices rose 3.3% annually in June, slowing from 3.5% in May.

On a monthly basis, prices increased 0.3% in June from May.

Ireland’s annual inflation rate remained above the eurozone’s 3.2% rate recorded in May. Eurostat will publish its flash estimate for eurozone inflation in June on Wednesday.

The Irish CSO said energy prices fell 1.9% during the month but were still 10% higher than a year earlier.

Food prices declined 0.3% from May but were up 0.7% on an annual basis.

Core HICP, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, rose 2.6% year-on-year. Excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, inflation was estimated at 2.9%.

Services prices increased 1.1% on the month and were 3.6% higher than a year earlier, while non-energy industrial goods inflation stood at 1.1%.

The CSO said the flash estimates are subject to revision when final June HICP and Irish consumer price index data are published on July 9.
