MasterCard Inc is considering selling a majority holding in UK payments business Vocalink, the Financial Times reported early on Monday. It said new entity DeliveryCo, which was created to manage the procurement and funding of the UK retail payment system’s ‘next generation,’ and is ‘backed by many of the UK’s leading banks and payment companies’. Vocalink ‘runs much of the UK retail payments system back to British banks,’ the FT noted. Two people who have been briefed on the talks told the FT that talks within Mastercard on the potential disposal are at a very preliminary stage, and that no party has yet made a firm offer. The sources also said that any deal with DeliveryCo is unlikely to materialise before next year, as the entity is still establishing its funding and governance arrangements.
