Rank Group PLC on Tuesday said it expects to report full-year operating profit ahead of expectations reflecting good trading at its Grosvenor venues and online. The Maidenhead, England-based gaming operator and owner of Grosvenor Casino and Mecca Bingo brands forecast full year underlying operating profit of at least £76 million in the financial year ended June 30. This is ahead of company-compiled consensus of £68.2 million and above £63.7 million reported in the financial year prior. Shares in Rank rose 3.3% to 97.78 pence in London on Tuesday, one of the better performing stocks on the FTSE 250. Like-for-like net gaming revenue grew 3% to £98.3 million on-year at its Grosvenor venues in the fourth quarter of the financial year, despite the disruption to international travel related to the conflict in the Middle East. Gaming machine performance improved 12% in the three month period. Digital LFL net gaming revenue increased 12%, with LFL growth of 12% in the UK business, accelerating from 2% in the prior quarter. Mecca venues and Enracha performance continued in line with expectations. Overall group LFL net gaming revenue rose 6% to £208.9 million in the quarter from the year prior. ‘Our expected profit outturn for the year reflects the progress we have made in executing our plan for growth, despite the significant cost and taxation headwinds that we have incurred during the year,’ said Chief Executive Richard Harris. ‘The group remains focussed on our ambition to deliver at least £100 million operating profit in the medium term, evolving Rank’s longer term strategy and maximising shareholder value,’ he added. For the financial year as a whole, Grosvenor LFL net gaming revenue rose 5% to £397.3 million with Digital up 8% to £248.5 million, Mecca up 4% to £143.0 million and Enracha up 7% to £45.3 million. Overall group LFL net gaming revenue increased 6%. In addition, Rank said it has submitted a regulatory settlement proposal of £5.0 million to the Gambling Commission. This followed receipt of preliminary findings from the commission of a review of Grosvenor Casinos which related to historical compliance failings. The Gambling Commission has confirmed it is minded to accept the settlement proposal. As a result, Rank’s separately disclosed items are expected to include a £5.0 million provision.
