Fund Objective

The fund aims to provide capital growth and income. The fund makes investments into different markets directly in shares and bonds and indirectly through investment funds and financial derivative instruments.The fund allocates its risk across four 'risk premia' categories: Growth, Inflation, Duration and Strategies. Over the medium term the allocation to each category is adjusted to reflect changes in the category's potential risk and reward.The Growth category contains the risks that tend to generate returns during positive economic conditions and includes the shares of large companies in the US, UK, Continental Europe, Japan, the Pacific basin and emerging markets, as well as the return from the credit risk of bonds issued by US, UK and European companies. The Inflation category contains the risks that tend to generate returns during inflationary or stagflationary times and includes the four main commodity sectors (oil, agriculture, industrial metals and gold) and US Treasury inflation-protected securities. The Duration category contains the risks that perform well when interest rates are falling and includes all major government bond markets (US, UK, Continental Europe, Japan, Canada and Australia) and emerging market bonds. The Strategies category contains the risks that are driven by other systematic risk factors, including behavioural factors such as following trends, and others such as the extra risk associated with investing in small cap relative to large cap stocks, value relative to growth stocks, high interest rate relative to low interest rate currencies and volatility in financial markets.

Ugo Montrucchio

Multi-Asset Portfolio Manager Joined Schroders in December 2013 and is based in London. Ugo is a portfolio manager for the Strategic Beta portfolios and member of the European portfolio management team. He is also a member of the Credit risk premia research team. Prior to joining Schroders, Ugo worked as a Director at BlackRock from 2007 (formerly Barclays Global Investors) where he was the lead portfolio manager specialising in diversified growth and risk parity strategies. He joined as a research associate in 2006 in the Liability Driven Investment (LDI) Team. Prior to this, Ugo worked as a fixed income investment analyst at Barings Asset Management from 2004 to 2006. He was the joint portfolio manager specialising in a bespoke cash-based LDI strategy. Ugo’s career commenced in 2000 at Barra International Ltd, where he worked as a consultant to portfolio/risk managers CFA and CAIA Charterholder BSc in Economics, Turin (Italy); MSc Finance, Greenwich (UK)

Matthias Scheiber

Matthias Scheiber, CFA Multi-Asset Fund Manager. He joined Schroders in September 2011 with fund management responsibility on complex institutional mandates. Senior investor within the Multi-Asset investment team and Member of the Strategic Investment Committee . Prior to Schroders, Matthias was a Partner and Fund Manager at Aethra Asset Management where he was responsible for the qualitative and quantitative investment research process as well as managing absolute return products. Matthias specialized in Absolute Return, Tactical Asset Allocation and Global Macro. From 2004 to 2009 Matthias worked at ABN AMRO Asset Management where he was a Portfolio Manager and Strategist responsible for parts of the Qualitative investment research of absolute return strategies. Matthias started his career in 2000 at Raiffeisen Bank in Vienna as an Institutional Portfolio manager where he was responsible for managing European Fixed Income mandates within the ALM department as well as managing absolute return mandates. He is CFA Charterholder. Matthias holds a Masters in Finance from University of Applied Science in Wiener Neustadt (Austria) and a Master of Science in Financial Engineering from Birkbeck, London University. Matthias is currently enrolled in the PhD in Mathematical Finance program at Birkbeck, London University
