How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

back up again

chartist2004 - 29 Apr 2007 00:54 - 10333 of 10502

Betfair being down this afternoon cost me 98.80, instead of a 101 greened up profit on the Arsenal v Man-U game (layed the draw after 1st Arsenal goal) @ 3.44
after goal 2 the odds were approx 7.5 (whilst their site was down!) by the time betfair was up and running Man-U were level, odds back down to 2.3. With only approx 15 mins remaining was time to 'red up'! and recoupe my losses on the Horses
which I did, 13 in running lays from 14:30 till 15:55 all profitable. A frustrating day but all ended well in the end up 10% on the day...

fundy ---- no swearing please (lol)
chartist --- well done with your in running lays --- cant wait for the instructions in book.

chartist2004 - 02 May 2007 21:30 - 10335 of 10502

B.P : Dont ask about Sun trading!!! > lay @ 14 drifted to 50 and came in!!! ouch, lay @ 32 came in! not my best day. Mon 3 trades 3 losses!!!

I guess my 'luck just ran out' ! It had to happen sooner or later!!

You all happy now!!!

betfair back.. but sky coverage of mexico chile stopped for a while.. and market suspended .. scary few moments as trading under 2.5s

Scripophilist - 05 Jul 2007 17:37 - 10339 of 10502

Three times this week. They messed up the suspension of a race earlier today as well. Not a good show really is it? I'm in to see them next week so will give them some grief.

scrip after the commisson increase you would think the service would be better, all you get is a message on the service page saying sorry, not good enough.
iam lucky i can use betdaq for horse racing.

Harlosh - 16 Jul 2007 20:31 - 10341 of 10502

Is there a problem with the Bet Angel website?

Harlosh - 16 Jul 2007 20:32 - 10342 of 10502

Tis ok - got it now.

Scripophilist - 17 Jul 2007 09:25 - 10343 of 10502

harrysdog - 18 Jul 2007 14:09 - 10344 of 10502

any issues today with betfair...or betangel? betangel keeps freezing on me. its a bit scary. dont *think* its my ISP..

edit... all okay now.

Scripophilist - 18 Jul 2007 17:28 - 10345 of 10502

Betfair playing up again I am afriad. What with that and the weather things haven't been easy of late.

harrysdog - 22 Jul 2007 16:11 - 10346 of 10502

I see there is a chat thing.. but any plans for a forum on the betangel site? think it would be useful.

Scripophilist - 22 Jul 2007 21:17 - 10347 of 10502

Yes, one is in beta already. I've generally been negative on forums but I'm willing to give one a try.

harrysdog - 25 Jul 2007 18:40 - 10348 of 10502

After attending 2 betangel courses and buying the software.. been on bit of a roll.
Been doing it part time mainly trading the horses.. was close to having made enough profit to have covered the cost of the courses and the software..

Now its all changed. Profit slashed in half.

Gamblers often have beginners luck and Im wondering now if thats what I had.

I have of course made some mistakes..

top clangers for me:
- Betting to close to the off and having one side matched the other refused.
(investing in the racing channels subscription would have been cheaper)
- Closing out a bet that wasnt met on a Dutching attempt.. so costly!
(be interested to know best strategy for bets that are not taken when trying to match)

- Trying to recover "inplay" (I know this does work sometimes..its not at the moment!)
- Having ""Auto stake/auto update" ticked. having backs/lays at different prices...aaagh

Scripophilist - 26 Jul 2007 15:01 - 10349 of 10502

"Gamblers"

You shouldn't be gambling or have that mindset. It has been difficult recently anyhow due to the weather so that may have forced you into a few mistakes. Glorious Goodwood is coming up next so things should settle again fairly soon.

Dil - 07 Sep 2007 19:42 - 10350 of 10502

The night the RWC starts and "service unavailable".

Bloody useless.

rbrownam - 07 Sep 2007 19:44 - 10351 of 10502

Very annoying.
I thought it was strange that the Glamogan v Kent Match Odds hadn't changed for a while !!!
