Thanks, Skinny. No progress. Istartsurf seems deeply embedded. It
blocks System Restore too.

I have just removed something similar from my son's computer.
Right click on the icon that starts your browser and view properties. Often the highjacker adds arguments after the call to the exe. If that is the case then just edit the call. Have a look at any browser addons under tools/settings. You may see an extension or search provider.
Otherwise try this. Bleepingcomputer is a very good virus web site

A follow up to the problems of IStartSurf. Thanks for your help but after two days trying all the options, I was defeated and took it to the PC geeks in town to get rid of the malware. They were unable to get anywhere and ended up doing a total wipe today.

I have Windows 8.1 and am pretty happy with it.
Today I had a popup from Microsoft offering me free Windows 10 download for a limited period. The offer is to register now and download after 29th July. Has anyone any thoughts as to why they are offering it free? I am always very sceptical as to why things are free........

I don't think it's a Beta version.....but I may be wrong.

Even so. The first users will be finding the bugs for the first service pack.

ha! dont expect everything to work if you are going from w7 / 8 to w10 and some of the others - there should be a tool that checks what your hw is running prior to upgrade that should advise what may not work post w10 install - personally gonna leave as is and just buy a new machine with w10 on - the cost and inconvenience of losing programs and apps is too high risk imo
wonder if ms stock will reverse :-)
gl whatever you do

Harry - it first appeared in the system tray on June 1st - have a look
here for plenty on Windows 10 - as mentioned above, you/we will be at the very least, user acceptance testing and at worst - system testing!

Can anyone recommend a reasonable free Photo + scanner software?
I need it to run on a PC with Windows Vista, preferably not a 30 day trial version and preferably not with loads of add on applications.
Am currently running a really old program called 'Photofiltre' which is now so out of date that the drivers are struggling with current scanners / printers.
All I really need it to do is run the scanner when copying docs and photos and have the ability to do basic tasks such as rotate, sharpen etc.
Possibly GIMP?

Can anybody please help with instructions as to how I can repair or delete and reinstall Windows Live Mail within Windows 10. Ever since using it in Windows 7 it has never saved documents into the draft folder and when messages have been successfully sent they never appear in the sent box.
I used to get round this by simply sending the E-mail without saving it and copying it to myself. This was fine until yesterday when one of the E-mail addresses I used had changed and caused problems of an endless loop when I then tried to close down the program which kept coming up with a box stating there was unsent E-mail in my outbox and did I want to send it. Previously I used to save important documents that had taken a long time to create seperately but because I hadn't experienced any problems recently I had stopped doing it and lost a huge amount of work which had to be redone. I retyped the message and sent it using Thunderbird but this program has its own problems that I find really frustrating.
I had hoped that on upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 it might have resolved the problem - unfortunately it didn't and various trawls on the Microsoft sight and google have failed to provide a solution to my problem. Is there an alternative reliable E-mail program that anyone can suggest which uses IMAP server settings?

Re post 10846 in respect of my Windows Live Mail problem everything else on the computer is working just as it should and nothing untoward has shown up during various scans which have been regularly undertaken.
