Please can somebody tell me how to adjust the time on Windows ME so that it displays on the bottom right of the toolbar as a 24 hour clock rather than a 12 hour clock?

Optimist - 09 Feb 2004 14:26 - 1314 of 11003

Hilary

It's in Regional and Language options in the Control Panel

Many thanks guys. That had been driving me round the twist for absolutely ages.

Ironically, I'd seen the Regional options menu but hadn't realised what the difference was between the upper and lower case H.

Iain,

Thunderbird 0.5 was released yesterday and is only available on the ftp.mozilla.org server (atm), as such it is flooded.

Keep trying, and you will get there.

If I still have my zip file at home (it runs from a self contained folder which I have sitting on my desktop, no install, no files cluttering your system - lovely), ill mail it to you.

J.

My wife has just bought by phone a PC from Tiny/Time and all ISPs except Supanet are blocked by an "optimised Modem" contrary to info given by salesman at time of sale.

The only solution Tiny/Time can offer is to use a premium rate support line to order a reload disc which will then allow connection to Supanet where the modem can be unblocked (Deoptimised). I have tried disabling the modem and used an external USB modem which allows me to connect to Onetel but the browser IE 6 does not work. I know there is a fix for this,
Can anyone help

Spaceman - 10 Feb 2004 18:43 - 1328 of 11003

Bobcolby, not sure how they have done this, can you post what OS you are using

Kayak - 10 Feb 2004 21:39 - 1329 of 11003

Bobcolby, I wouldn't spend a long time messing about with it or paying them on their support lines, I would take it back to the shop for them to fix or give you a refund. They have sold you a system with a modem that is not fully functional and it's pretty inexcusable.

DocProc - 11 Feb 2004 00:08 - 1330 of 11003

Bobcolby

I did a bit of research on this and found a forum site, which discusses this Tiny/Time modem problem HERE (see on Page 3)

Reading some of the postings on there, I found the following:-

"1. Go to the Conexant web site (see below), go to the Driver Support section, and download the driver file for an HSF modem (you'll see what I mean when you get there). Save the file to disc, then unzip it to a place you can find it later.
2. Right click the My Computer icon on your desktop, select Properties, select Hardware, click the Device Manager button.
3. Find the modem in the listing, right click the entry, and select uninstall. Confirm the action in the resulting box.
4. Reboot your PC.
5. On reboot, the PC finds the 'new' hardware, and asks if you want to instal it - say yes, and tell the Wizard where to find the drivers (where you unzipped them to earlier).
6. That's it. The modem now shows as a Generic, as opposed to saying it's a CNXT Vx PCI, or whatever, but it seems to work fine for me. I've already accessed two different ISP's now, with absolutely no issues."

You can download the driver from www.conexant.com .

"If you haven't got access to another machine with an internet connection, you can subscribe to Supanet's pay as you go service for the download and then never use them again. Once the driver is updated, you can add Internet Explorer to your Start Menu by going into Control Panel and clicking Add/Remove Programs. Select Add/Remove Windows Components and then put a tick against Internet Explorer."

Also

"OK, there is now a fix for this.
The modem with new Time computers does indeed come locked to Supanet. (or Supanet Optimised, as they call it)

To disable this "lock" (simply) sign up to a Supanet "Classic" (Pay as you go) account.

Use the pre-loaded Supanet software to do this, then connect to the internet using that account.

Go to Supanet.net and log-in.

Under the "My Supanet" heading, you will find an option to "de-optimise modem".

Wait a few minutes, go back to the Supanet software on the computer, go to Options > Update Software.

When the updates come down, the modem is also unlocked.
Simple. But really shouldn't be on there in the first place."

Bobcolby - 11 Feb 2004 09:04 - 1331 of 11003

Thanks Spaceman, Kayak and Docproc

My OS is XP Home. Even if it was bought in a shop, it still has to be returned to Time with thier agreement and a work number for which you have to use a premium rate service. They will then return the PC in the same state saying there is nothing wrong with it. My credit card company are investigating
on my behalf.
I found the web site and downloaded the conextant modem, which does dial out and connects to my ISP, but still does not allow my browser, IE 6 to find server. My external USB modem connects to ISP and I can hear it dial out which I cant on the Conextant. Time state that even if I go onto Supanet webset I cannot deoptimise without reloading my software first. As this may be yet another piece of disinformation from Time I will give it a try and let you know if it is successfull.

Bobcolby - 11 Feb 2004 09:18 - 1332 of 11003

Spaceman

I cannot use preloaded software, because I erased it when I was connecting to my home network ISP. I was advised at time of sale that thier was no problem connecting to other ISPs but they neglected to say I had to sign up for Supanet first and the literature does not mention it either. Only cure from Time is to purchase a reload disc via an expensive premium rate line, just to access supanet, I had bought a computer from Time, in November and ordered and paid for a reload disc which never arrived. I have phoned often and written twice but no joy. The premium rate line is 1 a minute. I managed to bypass block on the first Time machine by using a conextant modem, but this does not work with my wifes new Tiny/Time machine
