markusantonius - 14 Feb 2006 21:35

* M0NEY-AM G0LF DAY EVENT: 27 HOLES, INCL. SUSTENANCE & PRIZES (IN ADDITION TO M0NEY-AM SPONSORED PRIZES!) on: -
THURSDAY, 08 JUNE, 2006 *

So several months have passed... Based on the success of last Summer's Event at Longcliffe G.C., a few of you have asked me to take over the reigns from PTH and organise another G0LF M0NEY-AM DAY again based in the MIDLANDS. This is fairEST to the majority coming from all over the UK! From initial feedback (reflecting on 2005 36-Hole hot mid-Summer's day!), the popular view for a 2006 Event has been agreed, as follows: -

* Tea/Coffee on arrival.
* 9 Holes (4BBB 3/4 Stab.) Comp.
* Sandwiches/Lunch.
** 18 Holes (MAIN INDIVIDUAL (FULL HANDICAP) STABLEFORD EVENT) with M-AM and Golfing Prizes for Winners, incl. "Nearest-to-the-Pin" on the 9th. Hole and "The-Longest-Drive" on the 18th. Hole.
* 3-Course Evening Dinner (full waitress service), incl. coffee & mints + Prize Presentation/Mic. Table.

(** ADDITIONAL PRIZES from our generous SPONSORS include: - 3 months worth of Shares Magazine sent to the homes of EACH COMPETITOR every week. The Overall Winner will get The Money-AM Annual Golf Challenge Cup to keep for good plus 1 year's worth of Money-AM Level 2 service worth 357.50 + Vat. The Runner-Up and Third Placed Winners will each get a medal to keep plus 6 months' level 2.)

Venue: - H0RSLEY L0DGE G.C., Belper, Derbyshire (Championship Meadowland Course with American-type Greens). Refreshments will be in the On-Site Kingfisher Restaurant. Entry Fee is: - 60 per Competitor which will cover all of the above ** plus enough to buy some additional golfing prizes.

EW Robson
Wily campaigner and winner of this "race" last year. Slight concerns regarding the course though a good showing expected and decent E/W claims. Still seems ahead of the handicapper

Canary9, ran well for 12holes but faded in the straight last time. Probably over raced and the best is probably behind him. However, is being prepared for this one and there could be one last big effort in him, if the handicapper treats him leniently!

Pete, Rod - What are your exact handicaps, please, guys? (Fundy, I prefer course "super scrambler" rather than course "distance winner" and I admit to not being the longest hitter on Tour. But when you can get down in 2 from < 60 yards, 90% of the time, who needs to hit 300yd. drives? It is "quality" rather than "distance" which counts, mate!).

It was noted that Jimmy was a very good golf club member, always willing to help out and got on with everybody. It was suggested to Jimmy that he was just the type of chap they needed for the 'Golf Club Council'. Jimmy wrote to the secretary and put his name forward, a week later the Club Secretary approached him, informing him that he didn't think he stood much chance of getting a place on the Council, you are Jewish aren't you, said the Secretary, yes said Jimmy, and you will be circuncised I take it said the secretary, yes said Jimmy. Well, said the Secretary I afraid I can't put your name forward, you see this golf club is only run by'full pricks'.

(Appropriate to most Golf Clubs I think)

Markus, my cheque went in the post today. How do you pick the teams in the 9 holes , is it drawn?

markusantonius - 06 Mar 2006 17:21 - 141 of 505

Thanks, Fliper. The Morning 9-Hole Comp. is really designed as a taster to get everyone re-acquainted, familiar with the course and in the mood for the Main Singles Event. Last year's organiser (PTH) elected on 3-man teams with best 2 nett scores (Stab.) to count per hole and we all chucked in a fiver - winning team (which included The Shark!) taking all. So, my answer is this: -

It basically depends on how many entrants we have on the Day. I am proposing a simple, straightforward: 4BBB 3/4 Stableford Comp. with a high handicapper paired up with a low handicapper either: -

[A] Seeded (1 + 16, 2 + 15, 3 + 14, etc....), or
[B] 50% Lowest handicappers are paired up with the highest 50% who are drawn out of a hat, or
[C] 4-Ball Pairings are pre-decided by choice (i.e. you play with your mates!)...?

Either way, the morning 9 holes is primarily a fun event and I want to keep it as fair (and as simple!) as possible. Also, if there is an odd no. for the morning fourball comp., then I will play on my own against the rest of you in pairs. Howzat?

To all participants - Please feel free to email me privately with any suggestions.

EWRobson - 06 Mar 2006 18:57 - 142 of 505

Think the high/low draw is best. Did a high/medium/low draw for today's 'yellow ball'. Best two rounds were 46 and 45 (60 and 59 with their yellow ball bonus) from high guys who we couldn't even be cut because a non-qualifying competition.

Why don't we do the Oxford event in September, in addition? I gather MoneyAM are keen on a southern location, presumably for their own guests.

markusantonius - 07 Mar 2006 01:08 - 143 of 505

I agree with Eric. Better still - Why not have an ongoing M-AM G0LF Society Day every 6-9 weeks or so? At the very least - this would make the Event accessible to every poster around the UK - similar to Eric's original "North vs. South" concept!

EWRobson - 07 Mar 2006 12:30 - 144 of 505

marcus: Yes, why not? Some of us prepared to go miles to meet pals, have a game of golf on a new course, a bite and a jar. Just signed upfor a charity event at Temple (Henry Cotton's course) near Henley. So we could get in another two events this year after yours. MoneyAM could become famous!

Fliper,

Received your cheque today - will be sending it onto markusantonius by the start of next week.

Mark, you can cross fliper off the list as Paid.

That man has been crawling through Club websites to check up on our handicaps; will probably play under one of my aliases, e.g. Tiger, or my old pal from beaconsfield, Luke.

markusantonius - 08 Mar 2006 23:08 - 148 of 505

Tiger would play off at least plus+6 though, Eric, so feel free, sir! :o)

Markus; Thanks for email; Will try and get along but it will be a last minute thing so don't book me down yet. I'll let you know!

OK, Bully. So far we only have the hard core 8 - 9 entries... Come on guys, Summer will soon be upon us!
Q. If Bully is a no-show in June then just who will be handing out the Main M-AM-sponsored Prizes?

markusantonius - 11 Mar 2006 17:41 - 152 of 505

Received your cheque today, Fliper. Thanks. BTW where do you play, can I ask?
