FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

skinny - 17 Jul 2014 17:09 - 16018 of 21973

Leaving the rest to see how this air crash pans out.

cynic - 17 Jul 2014 17:10 - 16019 of 21973

markets are more unpredictable and skittish than usual ..... why on earth the markets should react because of a malaysian airliner crash in ukraine, heaven knows ......currently no index positions

skinny - 17 Jul 2014 17:11 - 16020 of 21973

Because it looks as if it may have been shot down.

cynic - 17 Jul 2014 17:17 - 16021 of 21973

confess i assumed it had just crashed ...... obviously one side can't tell a malaysian civil airliner from an enemy jet fighter

skinny - 17 Jul 2014 17:17 - 16022 of 21973

Here's the current blurb from the BBC & Reuters

cynic - 17 Jul 2014 17:23 - 16023 of 21973

thanks but just seen it on line ...... unbelievable incompetence

cynic - 17 Jul 2014 20:17 - 16024 of 21973

dow is tumbling rapidly again and it doesn't look good for the morning

tomasz - 18 Jul 2014 01:23 - 16025 of 21973

Nice profit Skinny, I exited my FTSE shorts this morning... Not much time to trade at the moment...

cynic - 18 Jul 2014 16:16 - 16028 of 21973

TESLA (TSLA)
bought just a few this afternoon at $216 - it has been >$250 within the last couple of months
though it's a heavily rated share already, it certainly has a good following
more importantly, china has removed sales tax (10% i think) on electric cars and that is where Tesla are having a big push

it's certainly a very attractive car, but i do wonder about the build quality, but what do you expect from american cars

goldfinger - 18 Jul 2014 16:28 - 16029 of 21973

Dead Loss.

cynic - 18 Jul 2014 16:36 - 16030 of 21973

we'll see
i didn't buy many and i'll just tuck them away

goldfinger - 18 Jul 2014 16:57 - 16031 of 21973

They all say that.

cynic - 18 Jul 2014 17:55 - 16032 of 21973

at least it's started in the right direction and is +$4 since i bought
